Simulating atmospheric flows in the vicinity of a water basin
This work is an extension of the author's previous study on the atmospheric circulation and pollutant transport in the vicinity of a water basin near a city. A three-dimensional finite-element simulation of the pollutant transport over a hill was performed with temperature and wind data produced by a three-dimensional finite-difference model. The general character of the pollutant transport simulated by the model is in qualitative agreement with theoretical predictions. A comparison between the nonhydrostatic and hydrostatic versions of the finite-difference models of the flow over a hill in the vicinity of a lake has been done. It is shown that the hydrostatic model produces the results which do not satisfactory agree with the observations, although the nonhydrostatic model predicted the wind and temperature profiles with a reasonable accuracy.
