Two-dimensional non-uniform difference scheme with higher order of accuracy
The paper deals with the construction and justification of an inhomogeneous difference scheme with the improved order of magnitude for a two-dimensional elliptic equation. The heterogeneity of the scheme is connected with the periodic alternation of the difference operator pattern. At some nodes there is a nine-point pattern and in the rest there is a standard five-point pattern. The general idea of such a construction is illustrated as well as the justification principle of the improved accuracy of its solution. Numerical examples confirm the theoretical conclusion of the
fourth accuracy order of the approximated solution in spite of the second order of approximation in each of the difference equations.
