The EnPDB database on DNA, RNA and protein 3-dimensional structures
Information on DNA, RNA and protein 3-dimensional structures, accumulated in the PDB database (Protein Data Bank), is of paramount importance for medicine, biology and biotechnology. At present PDB embraces a huge body of information (more than 5 Gb), which increases each year in geometric proportion. Providing effective search in such a huge amount of data is feasible only with application of up-to-date computer technologies. At the same time, the PDB layout was designed at the early days of emergence of computer database search and access technology. The PDB contains a large amount of poorly formalized information, which decreases at considerable rate the effectiveness of automated search and analysis of 3-dimensional structures of biological macromolecules. A program - convertor is developed to convert the PDB into well-formalized representation, providing for extended search based on the database fields. The database EnPDB is developed with the use of the SRS system http://srs5.bionet.nsc.ru/srs5bin/cgi-bin/wgetz?-fun+pagelibinfo+-info +ENPDB. The data-linebreak base is integrated with system for 3-dimensional structure viewing and other databases.
