Some notes on monotonicity preserving schemes
The general problems, arising at adaptive grid generation and construction of divergent difference schemes, which preserve monotonicity of a numerical solution, are discussed using simple examples of difference schemes for transport equation with constant coefficient. An example of a scheme with positive coefficients, which doesn't preserve monotonicity, is given. Also an example of a TVD-scheme, which increases a number of extremums, is provided.
