Non-stationary model for convective flows of mantle in the approximation of weak compressibility
A novel non-stationary model for flows of the mantle is presented in the approximation of weak compressibility. The paper is aimed at modeling of the convective flows with strongly varying reological and transport properties, such as viscosity, termoconductivity, etc. In contrast with the traditional approach based on the Boussinesq approximation, the model relies on the full Navier- Stokes equations for a weakly compressible fluid with variable density and viscosity. To improve the convergence of the constructed numerical model at low Mach, the preconditioner method was used. Justification and verification of the model are presented.
